  • Day 1: Welcome to Lapland

Your family vacation starts at Rovaniemi Airport, where you will be greeted and transferred to your cabin. In the evening you will be taken by car to a reindeer farm for a memorable reindeer sleigh ride. This traditional mode of Lappish travel is a unique experience – and you may even see the northern lights dance in the sky!* At the farm you will enjoy a hot beverage and light snack around a campfire and learn about the life of reindeer herders before returning to Rovaniemi.

*Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: Arctic Animals at the World’s Northernmost Zoo

This day tour gives you a chance to observe Arctic wildlife in their natural surroundings at the Ranua Wildlife Park, the northernmost zoo in the world! Arrive by car to the park, located about 80 km from Rovaniemi, and enjoy a refreshing walk outside to see the animals—about 60 species of Arctic and northern wild animals such as bears (including the only polar bears in Finland), lynx, wolf, wolverine, moose, and many more.

After lunch at a cosy restaurant, it’s time for sweet treats! We still make a stop at the Fazer Candy Store where you can buy some Finnish-made candies before heading back to town.

  • Day 3: Snowmobiles, Reindeer and Santa Claus Village

The day’s adventures begin with a guided snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm where you will hear more about reindeer husbandry and Lappish culture. You can take a reindeer ride and attend a special Lapp ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circle.

In the afternoon the trip continues by car to Santa Claus Village with time to do shopping in Santa Claus’ Village. You will also have an opportunity to send postcards from Santa Claus’ main post office. During the day you get to meet Santa Claus himself and enjoy a delicious lunch in a cozy restaurant. And you will get a Diploma for crossing the Arctic Circle!

*Please note that during December, transportation to the reindeer farm might be by car instead of snowmobile but snowmobiles will be ridden as part of the program.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
  • No luggage handling services will be available. You must be prepared and able to carry your own luggage in snowy conditions.
  • Accommodations will be simple in comparison to what you’d find in major urban centres.
  • Please note that while final cleaning is included in your cabin rental at departure there is no daily cleaning included.
  • WC facilities encountered during excursions may be unheated outhouses without running water.
  • During husky safaris where you share one team of huskies with another person, the person standing to drive the sled will need to kick to assist the dogs and may be required to run when sledding uphill.
  • Reindeer and huskies run very fast. Those interested in participating in either a reindeer or husky safari should keep this in mind.
  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.

Snowmobile tours
  • The driver of a snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed before driving a snowmobile.
  • Children are seated in a sled pulled by the guides snowmobile during snowmobile safaris
Northern Lights
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Evening excursions will operate according to the tour schedule, even in unfavourable viewing conditions, and our guides will do their utmost to determine the best possible location for sightings.

Activities & Guides
This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. You will not have a dedicated guide for the duration of your time in Lapland, but can expect a different qualified guide for each planned excursion. You are responsible for making your way to the specified meeting point for the start of each excursion. The time between scheduled excursions and activities will be free-time.

After booking with Nordic Visitor
After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two working days by one of our travel consultants, who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all of your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. Before you travel, Nordic Visitor will provide you with a detailed personal itinerary and vouchers for all services and activities booked for your travel package. You will also be provided with Nordic Visitor’s 24/7 emergency helpline phone number where you can always reach a Nordic Visitor representative during your time in Lapland.

Please note: It takes time to make all the arrangements for a complete travel package. The travel consultant must book or reserve each included service individually with each supplier and personalize each itinerary accordingly. For this reason, we encourage our clients to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that your preferred travel dates, accommodation class and additional activities are available.
