  • Day 1: Arrival in Finnish Lapland and quest for the Northern Lights

Your exciting holiday commences at Rovaniemi Airport where you are met and transferred to your comfortable hotel. We recommend having an early dinner before your tour starts. As dusk settles, the guide prepares you for an exciting guided snowmobile trip into the wild to explore the extraordinary beauty of Lapland’s northern lights*. Two people share one snowmobile and takes turns in driving. Later, after enjoying a delicious hot beverage and light snack around a campfire, you are returned to the hotel.

    * Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. This evening snowmobile safari starts at approx. 17:30 is only operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. If you are arriving on any other day of the week we will move this safari to day 2 or 3 of your itinerary.

  • Day 2: Dog sled Ride & Traditional Finnish Sauna

Start the day with a ride to a husky kennel, where you will learn to “mush” and embark on a thrilling dog sled ride! The dogs howl and pull at their harnesses to get moving, and as soon as the anchor is lifted, they take off at full speed through the snowy forests and plains. 2 people share 1 sled and takes turns in driving. Back at the kennel, you have some time to enjoy a hot beverage with the guide before your transfer back to the hotel.

The rest of your day is free to enjoy this spectacular destination. Why not do as the locals and relax in the traditional Finnish sauna at your hotel?

    Highlights
  • Day 3: Evening at the Arctic Snow Hotel

Explore Rovaniemi on your own today. If you’re interested in learning more about local history, nature and culture, we suggest a visit to the Arktikum Museum, featuring exhibits about Finnish Lapland and the Arctic region. You can also add more outdoor adventures to your holiday from our selection of day tours, though we do recommend booking these well in advance.

In the evening, you are taken to the Arctic Snow Hotel in Lehtojärvi, a magical place with excellent opportunities to view the northern lights (if conditions are right). After a guided tour of this fascinating hotel, enjoy an atmosphere-rich dinner inside a warm Lappish tepee on the premises. Around midnight you are returned to your hotel.

    * The Arktikum Museum is closed on Mondays.

Optional upgrade: overnight at the Arctic Snow Hotel or in a Glass Igloo

For a truly memorable Lapland experience, spend the night at the Arctic SnowHotel. There are 3 different accommodation options at the Arctic Snow Hotel:

    Snow Rooms
The Arctic Snow Hotel’s snow rooms are for two persons. The furniture in the snow rooms is basically made of snow. The beds have been made more comfortable with soft and warm clothes and the rooms have electric lights. The toilet and shower facilities are in the main log building

    Snow Suites
As a special treat, we offer accommodation in snow suites, which are decorated with snow art and sculpture, among other things. The suites are extremely well suited for memorable events, such as wedding nights and other very special occasions. The toilet and shower facilities are in the main log building

    Glass Igloos
Our 15 unique “northern lights friendly” Arctic Glass Igloos are located just next to the Arctic SnowHotel. They offer “all-sky vision” in complete comfort. They are private, comfortable and spacious (20 m²) warmly insulated, all-sky thermal-glass roofs, heated floors adjustable twin beds and a bathroom with a shower cabinet.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 4: Sami Reindeer Farm & Santa Claus Village

The day’s adventures begin with a guided snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm where you will hear more about reindeer husbandry and Lappish culture. You can take a reindeer ride and attend a special Lapp ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circle.

In the afternoon the trip continues by car to Santa Claus Village with time to do shopping in Santa Claus’ Village. You will also have an opportunity to send postcards from Santa Claus’ main post office. During the day you get to meet Santa Claus himself and enjoy a delicious lunch in a cozy restaurant. And you will get a Diploma for crossing the Arctic Circle!

*Please note that during December, transportation to the reindeer farm might be by car instead of snowmobile but snowmobiles will be ridden as part of the program.

    Highlights
  • Day 5: Departure

Today you are transferred to Rovaniemi airport in time for your departure flight.

We had a great time

Coming from South Africa and experiencing the Nordic Winter was a high-light for us. Boy was it cold! But we really enjoyed it. Loved the Reindeer farm and Sami culture experience. We also enjoyed talking to the locals and getting their perspective on life in general.

Wonderful tour

First of all Thank you Cicci that was a wonderful tour embedded in our memory forever. Hotels: Both in Kemi and Rovaniemi the best part was the central location of these hotels. They were so near to the airport, train station as well the safari office. The pick up from airport to train station to hotel and vice versa dot on time, quick and of course all pleasant people. Tours and Safari - We enjoyed it to the core. The guides were excellent and helpful with info and very caring towards my kid. Meals - It was again a different and wonderful experience esp the Beetroot dish which we had on our Santa tour. Though we confirmed at last moment about are vegetarian food they made a very delicious dish. Looking forward for more trips through Nordic Visitor.

We will be back

It was a once in a lifetime experience and we loved every aspect of our trip. Our biggest highlight was the Husky sledding. Nordic Visitor organised every aspect of our trip for us and facilitated all our extras we wanted to do. It was amazing service and we would like to make sure Sofia is recognized for her hard work and that she gave us complete confidence in our trip bookings. We will be back in the future!!

I would recommend this tour and company

Amazing tour and although I didn't see the northern lights due to weather conditions, it did not dampen my experience in the slightest. The dog sledding, snow mobiling, reindeer farm and sleigh ride, arctic ice hotel : everything was fantastic. The guide's knowledge, briefing on equipment, experience was fantastic. I would recommend this tour and your company to anyone looking for a Scandinavian adventure!
Thank you Cecilia for all your help!!
